Brissonté Gifts & Home Decor: A Favorite Local Gift Shop in North Reading, MA

If you’re looking for a unique gift shop in North Reading, Massachusetts, Brissonté Gifts & Home Decor is the kind of place where you can easily spend time browsing, discovering and getting inspired.

Owner Colleen has created a welcoming local shop filled with thoughtfully selected gifts, home décor, creative finds and personalized pieces. But what makes Brissonté especially worth knowing is the story behind the store.

When I sat down with Colleen for North of Boston Lifestyle, I learned that owning a shop wasn’t simply a business idea she developed as an adult.

It was a childhood dream.

A Childhood Dream Becomes a North Reading Business

When Colleen was a little girl, her grandfather asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up.

Her answer was simple:

“I want to own a store.”

Years later, she made that dream a reality.

During our conversation, Colleen laughed as she described Brissonté as giving her all the space she could possibly want to “play shopkeeper,” merchandise displays and enjoy something she has always loved: shopping.

But there is much more intention behind the store than simply filling shelves with pretty things.

Colleen puts a great deal of thought into what she carries, how it is displayed and, most importantly, how customers will feel when they give or receive something from Brissonté.

Unique Gifts That Feel Special Without Being Extravagant

One thing I especially appreciated during my conversation with Colleen was her philosophy about gift giving.

She looks for items that are unique, well made and reasonably priced.

As she explained it to me, she wants customers to get “a lot of bang for the buck.”

That matters.

A thoughtful gift doesn’t necessarily need to be expensive. Sometimes the best gifts are simply the ones that feel as though someone took the time to find something a little different.

Brissonté has long focused on offering gifts and home décor that customers may not see everywhere else, while also making the presentation part of the experience.

Colleen talked about wanting customers to leave with a beautifully presented gift that feels ready to give.

That personal attention is one of the things I love about shopping at locally owned businesses North of Boston. You’re not simply choosing something off a shelf. You’re often benefiting from the eye, experience and creativity of the person who selected it in the first place.

Looking for Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in North Reading?

Brissonté is also a destination for customers interested in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and creative furniture projects.

This part of my conversation with Colleen immediately made me think about all of those pieces of furniture many of us have tucked away somewhere.

Maybe it’s an older dresser that no longer fits your style.

A side table inherited from a family member.

A cabinet that works perfectly but looks dated.

Instead of getting rid of it, you may be able to completely change its character with paint.

Colleen explained that Annie Sloan Chalk Paint can be used on many different surfaces and generally doesn’t require the extensive sanding and priming people often associate with furniture refinishing.

What I especially liked, though, was hearing how willing she is to help.

Bring in photographs. Bring your questions. Talk through your color ideas.

Colleen can help you think through the project, select colors and understand the steps you’ll need to take.

That’s another advantage of having a specialty retailer right here in North Reading. You aren’t just purchasing a can of paint. You have someone local who can help you figure out what to do with it.

Creativity Is Part of the Brissonté Experience

That creative spirit extends beyond paint.

Brissonté has offered workshops and opportunities for people to gather, learn something new and make something of their own.

And I think that fits perfectly with the personality of the store.

There is a difference between simply decorating a house and creating a home that reflects the people who live there.

Sometimes that comes from finding the perfect new piece.

Sometimes it comes from transforming something you already own.

And sometimes it comes from making something yourself.

Brissonté provides a little bit of all three.

Custom Gifts Make It Personal

Personalization was another theme that stood out during our interview.

Colleen shared examples of custom wreaths, floral arrangements, hand-painted signs and embroidered ZIP code pillows that could be personalized with details such as a name, date or even a paw print.

Those kinds of gifts can be particularly meaningful because they connect to a person, place or memory.

A ZIP code pillow for someone who has moved away from the town where they grew up.

A personalized gift celebrating a new home.

Something commemorating a wedding, anniversary or special date.

A paw print honoring a much-loved pet.

Those are the kinds of gifts people often keep because the meaning goes far beyond the item itself.

If you have an idea, Colleen’s philosophy has always been to start with a conversation.

A Local Business That Believes in Community

Perhaps my favorite part of my interview with Colleen came when we talked about Brissonté’s connection to the local community.

She shared how the business had hosted fundraising shopping days for local nonprofits, with a portion of sales supporting participating organizations.

Her explanation for why they did it was wonderfully simple:

“Community supports us. So we in turn would like to support the community.”

That sentence has stayed with me.

Because when we talk about the importance of shopping local, the conversation is about much more than where we spend money.

Small businesses are frequently the same businesses supporting school events, nonprofit fundraisers, community organizations, local families and other business owners.

They donate.

They collaborate.

They show up.

And they help give a community its personality.

Supporting a locally owned shop can create a ripple effect that reaches much further than one purchase.

The Kind of Store Where Conversation Is Welcome

Near the end of our conversation, Colleen said something else that captured the personality behind Brissonté.

If customers are looking for something the store doesn’t currently carry, have an idea for a custom project or know of a product line they think might be a good fit, she wants to hear about it.

Her invitation was simple:

“Come on down and let’s talk.”

That might be my favorite description of what makes an independent business different.

There is an actual person behind the counter who wants to hear what you’re looking for.

And sometimes those conversations influence what shows up in the store next.

Why Brissonté Is Worth Knowing

I started North of Boston Lifestyle because I wanted to share more of the stories behind the businesses, people and places that make our communities special.

Brissonté is exactly the kind of business I love highlighting.

A little girl once told her grandfather that someday she wanted to own a store.

She grew up and created one.

And along the way, that childhood dream became a place where other people can find gifts, get creative, refresh their homes, personalize something meaningful and support a local business that believes in supporting its community in return.

That’s a pretty wonderful dream to see come true.
