It’s the end of January and if you’re like me you’re still recovering from the holidays. Maybe you ate a little too much, maybe you drank a little too much, but we’re all human right?
If you’re looking to shake off those cobwebs and get moving, I’ve got a place for you!
I recently discovered F45 training in Burlington, MA and let me tell you right now this will get you going.
F45 is a dynamic, fast paced workout that is both fun and intense at the same time. The atmosphere of the gym is one of the first things you’ll notice. Bright and clean are the first two descriptors. This is an establishment that takes pride in its appearance cleanliness. The COVID precautions are top notch as well, with a constant cleaning schedule and rules in place that all members must follow. Brand new and well maintained equipment, from rowing machines to slam balls, rounds out the first impression.
This isn’t a dank dark power lifter gym. This is set up to get you moving and grooving. High energy music and relentlessly energetic trainers keep you motived during the entire session, even during burpees…
The incredible coaching team is a huge part of what makes F45 standout.
Alyssa, Taylor, Jenna, Britni, Cara and Kelsi are all dedicated to their clients and to their safety. Each is outrageously enthusiastic and supportive. They can answer any questions that you have and will fix any issue you’re having. Even more so is the incredible attention that each of the instructors shows to each class as a whole, while still being able to give individual instruction. Kelsi corrected my form on a front squat, and I’ve used that advice in my normal squat routine ever since. Her advice has helped me increase my strength, while keeping me from hurting myself.
Rounding out what makes F45 so different is the community aspect of the gym. I was able to witness this myself. I was welcomed in and given tips from a few of the members on day one. You’ll often catch members hanging out after a session chatting and planning out their schedule for the next week together. It’s amazing to watch the encouragement that spreads from one person to another.
F45, as a training system, is a unique concept. Everyone has their own space that they workout in and each space is a different workout for that day.
The movements in the workouts run the gamut from loaded front squats to push ups all the way to jumping jacks. Every workout is made up of rounds consisting of 45 seconds of effort and 15 seconds of rest, which you use to prepare for the next round. One of the standouts that separates F45 from other training systems is that it is entirely self-driven. You are in total control of how hard you work out. There are no reps to count, no one is pushing you for “one more.” This helps to avoid the injuries you so often hear about being associated with other systems.
Additionally, every space has all of the equipment you’ll need in it for that session. No searching, no running around (unless that’s part of the workout) trying to find equipment. Need a spin bike? Look to your right. Need a bar for weighted front squats? Look to your left. You are the only one who uses this equipment during the workout and its cleaned thoroughly between each class.
The workouts come in three varieties, resistance (strength), cardio, or a hybrid.
Each of these classes obviously has a different focus, but you’ll absolutely get whatever you are looking for with each class type. Personally, I love the Saturday hybrid workouts. Leaving the class sweaty, smiling, and full of endorphins starts the weekend on the right note for sure.
As a person who has spent countless hours in the gym, running, doing CrossFit, and any variety of fitness related activities I’ll attest to the effectiveness of these workouts. The average calories I burn in one of these sessions is 500, which let’s face it, is insane. I leave sweaty and tired, but happy every time!
F45 Burlington without a doubt receives the Andy’s Local Spotlight recommendation.
