A enjoyable and educational nature hike in the dark.
Night Hiking
This class is for a desire to learn or to practice hiking at night in a relaxed environment. Hiking at night is often an intimidating experience for participants. The goal of this class is to provide an enjoyable and educational nature hike in the dark.
We will cover:
-The basics of navigating with minimal light
-Hiking safety in a controlled environment
-Using our natural night vision to navigate
-Star gazing and a brief history of the area
Details:
This is a Level 1 course for anybody that is new to the outdoors and hiking. It is open to all levels.
We will provide Group First Aid Kit available to cover any basic needs that come up.
We will be managing various risks, including navigating uneven terrain in the dark.
Expectations:
Gain confidence navigating at night in the wilderness.
Come away with the confidence navigating at night in the wilderness.
A knowledge of the basics of being in the outdoors at night including:
-gear
-what to wear
-safety
-use of our natural night vision.
What to bring:
-CDC recommended mask
-Daypack – Large enough to carry water, food and layers.
– Hiking Boots
-Good Hiking Socks
-Personal Prescription Medications
-Epinephrine auto-injectors for anaphylactic allergies
-Water Bottle
-Weather Appropriate Clothing
-Energy snacks
COVID 19 Acknowledgement:
-I am symptom-free (A fever of 100° or more, Cough, Shortness of breath, Chills, Muscle aches, Sore throat, New loss of taste or smell, Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, congestion, runny nose, Headache, Severe fatigue)
-I have not come into contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19
-I have not traveled to a state, other than a COVID-19 lower-risk state, within the past two weeks
-I am not sick with COVID-19
-I have not recently tested positive for COVID-19
-I have not recently had close contact with a person with COVID-19

Instructor: Thomas DeMello
Thomas comes from Boston but discovered his love for the outdoors in the Appalachian mountains of Tennessee. Now he and his dog Watauga spend every waking minute they can in the outdoors. He and Watauga have paddled sparkling rivers, climbed high peaks and curled up many times around a campfire. He dedicates his time to helping others find their passion for the outdoors as a guide/instructor. Additionally, he instructs on capturing outdoor moments as a videographer, photographer and drone pilot.
