Mother’s Day 2026 North of Boston: Brunch & Local Gifts

Where to Celebrate Mom Locally: Mother's Day 2026 North of Boston Guide

Brunch reservations, gifts she’ll actually love, and small businesses worth supporting this Sunday, May 10

A few Mother’s Days ago, my son surprised me with what is still one of my favorite gifts I’ve ever received. No reservation, no wrapped box — just a curated walk he had planned himself around Horn Pond in Woburn, stopping at every patch of flowering trees and wildflowers he had scouted ahead of time. (You’ll see some of those photos further down in this post.) It cost him nothing but his attention, and it gave me everything.

I think about that walk every year when this holiday rolls around. It’s the reason I still believe the best Mother’s Day gifts are the ones that feel personal — whether that means a quiet morning outside, a beautifully wrapped gift from a shop that knows her name, or a brunch reservation at a place where the people behind it actually care.

So this year, instead of driving into Boston, look around our towns. Restaurants are pulling out all the stops. Small shops are stocked with gifts that beat anything you’ll grab at a chain store on Saturday afternoon. And there are walks like Horn Pond — quiet, beautiful, and free — that are worth more than they look on paper.

Here’s our local roundup: where to take her, where to shop for her, and a few mother-and-family-owned businesses we want to shout out, because what’s more fitting on Mother’s Day than supporting the moms who built something beautiful?

Brunch & Dining Spots Worth Booking Now

A quick word to the wise: Mother’s Day is the single busiest brunch day of the year. If a place is on your list, call today. Tomorrow may be too late.

Woburn

Sogno Italian (304 Cambridge Rd) is serving up a Mother’s Day brunch from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with crowd-pleasers like Belgian waffles with Nutella and bananas, an egg-and-potato brunch flatbread, and a lobster benedict that’s worth the trip alone. They’ll also have their full Italian menu of seafood, pastas, and meats available — perfect if Mom is more of a “linguine for lunch” person. Reserve here.

Sogno is also featured in our deeper dive on the best Italian food in Middlesex County if Mom is an Italian-food devotee.

The Fox Den (482 Main St) is a downtown Woburn favorite and one of the most charming family-run spots in our coverage area. Owned by brothers Ryan and Adam Dziki along with Adam’s wife Julie, The Fox Den blends European bistro charm with modern American flair — and their Polish and Portuguese heritage shows up beautifully on the menu (pierogi, kielbasa benedict, malasadas, and brunch burgers that have a small but loyal cult following). Their Mother’s Day brunch runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with most regular menu items also available. Cozy room, hearty food, attentive staff — exactly the vibe you want for a celebratory brunch. Call (781) 305-3869 to reserve.

Crowne Plaza Boston Woburn (15 Middlesex Canal Park Rd) is hosting a full ballroom Mother’s Day Brunch on Sunday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Expect breakfast classics, chef-prepared entrées, a carving station, and the kind of buffet variety that works well when you’re celebrating with extended family or grandkids who want options. Tickets through Eventbrite — book ahead.

Krave Kitchen & Bar (348 Cambridge Rd) is a family-owned gastropub serving brunch every day until 3 p.m., so it’s a great less-formal option if Mom would rather skip the white-tablecloth scene. Never-frozen prime beef burgers, fresh ingredients, honest pricing — the kind of neighborhood place that delivers.

Krave is also one of our go-to lunch spots the rest of the year.

Tavern in the Square Woburn is also worth a mention for a more casual, lively vibe — they do weekend brunch from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and have been known to open for Mother’s Day. Call ahead to confirm

Wakefield

Tonno Wakefield (175 North Ave) is open all day on Mother’s Day from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., with a special brunch served 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the full menu available all day. The vibe is warm, the cocktails are good, and it’s the kind of place that feels like a treat without feeling stuffy. Book on Resy.

Burlington

Burlington is the brunch jackpot of our coverage area (For a broader look at our favorites year-round, see our Best Restaurants North of Boston guide.), and there’s a spot for every kind of mom:

Seasons 52 (6 Wayside Rd) is doing a Mother’s Day brunch on both Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10, with crab and cheddar quiche and a French toast bake with applewood-smoked bacon. If hosting at home is more her speed, they’re also offering a Mother’s Day Green Box To Go (pick it up the day before, warm at home) that feeds four to six and includes a whole side of cedar plank-roasted salmon or a wood-grilled tenderloin, plus sides and dessert.

Eddie V’s Prime Seafood (50 South Ave) is doing a two-course prix fixe brunch with a warm apple cinnamon scone to start and entrée choices like butter-poached Maine lobster quiche Florentine or an 8-oz pan-seared filet mignon paired with a mushroom and white cheddar frittata.

The Capital Grille (10 Wayside Rd) is running a special Mother’s Day brunch on May 10 with two courses of chef-created selections, classic brunch cocktails, and Champagne — plus the full dinner menu available all day.

Chopps Italian Steakhouse at the Boston Marriott Burlington (One Burlington Mall Rd) is the move if you’re bringing the whole family. Their Mother’s Day Brunch Buffet is hosted in the Celebrate Ballroom and features carving, omelet, and waffle stations, a raw bar, kids’ station, dessert spread, plus a cash bar and live music.

The Bancroft (15 3rd Ave) is offering a three-course prix fixe Mother’s Day menu with seatings starting at 11:30 a.m. and the last seating at 5:45 p.m. Call (781) 221-2100 for reservations.

Lexington

The Inn at Hastings Park’s Town Meeting Bistro does Mother’s Day right. Think farm-to-fork brunch with mimosas, a Wilson Farm flower cart on-site for custom bouquets, and the kind of historic-boutique-hotel atmosphere that turns lunch into an occasion. Reservations go fast — book now.

Il Casale Lexington is another lovely choice, offering their full a la carte menu plus celebratory specials. Book on Resy.

Reading

The Charles @ Bunratty Tavern (614 Main St) is a sweet local pick — and fitting for the holiday. The Charles is owned by mother-and-son duo Eilish and Ryan, who opened next-door Bunratty Tavern in 2015 and expanded with The Charles in 2020. Modern American dining, craft cocktails, and a story that fits the day.

Wilmington

Rocco’s Restaurant & Bar (193 Main St) has been a family-owned Wilmington institution since 1940 — eighty-plus years of generous portions, classic Italian comfort food, and the kind of welcome that makes Mom feel at home. The DePasquale family still runs it, which feels exactly right for the day.

Worth the Trip Into the City

If Mom loves the buzz of downtown Boston and you want to make it a real outing, Eddie Merlot’s in the Seaport is one of my personal favorites — and they’re going all out for Mother’s Day. Their Sunday, May 10 brunch buffet (10 a.m.–2 p.m.) is the kind of spread that earns the drive: a made-to-order omelet station, oysters on the half shell, chilled crab legs, a Prime beef tenderloin carving station, glazed ham, grilled rack of lamb, salmon, and Eddie’s famous mac and cheese, plus all the brunch classics and bottomless desserts. Mimosas and bloody marys are included. $79 per adult, $24 for kids 10 and under. Reserve on OpenTable — book today, it’s a popular one.

Beyond the Sit-Down

If brunch out isn’t her thing, consider building your own at home with pastries and flowers from local shops, or booking a Mother’s Day weekend escape at a spot like the Inn at Hastings Park to stretch the celebration.

Where to Shop Local for Gifts She'll Actually Love

Skip the last-minute big-box scramble. The best gifts in our area are sitting on the shelves of small shops run by people who’ve been curating beautiful things for years. Two of our favorites this Mother’s Day are family-run businesses with moms at the heart of the operation — which feels like exactly the right way to honor a mom.

Brissonté Gifts & Home Decor — North Reading

157 Main St, North Reading | brissonte.com

Brissonté is the kind of shop that makes you want to slow down. Tucked into a strip mall on Route 28, it’s a 4,000-square-foot world of European-flair gifts, home decor, and vintage finds — the kind of place where every display tells a little story.

What we love most: it’s a true family business. Colleen Perry opened Brissonté in 2007 with her husband Bob (her self-described “silent partner who’s always cheering her on”), and their son Robert runs the shop as store manager — he’s the one keeping the online store humming and is often behind the counter restoring furniture. Their shop dog Miss Belle rounds out the team. Colleen’s personal touch is everywhere, from the carefully chosen Swan Creek candles and Inis fragrances to the custom ZIP code pillows, stemware, and coasters that let you wear your hometown pride. They also carry handmade pillows, jewelry, baby gifts, greeting cards, and beautiful gift baskets they’ll build to your budget.

A few Mother’s Day-perfect ideas:

  • A signature handmade pillow for her favorite reading chair
  • A custom gift basket (they’ll do the work — you get the credit)
  • One of their stunning cheeseboards for the mom who loves to host
  • An Annie Sloan Chalk Paint workshop for the creative mom (Brissonté is an official stockist)
  • A gift card so she can pick exactly what she wants

Every gift comes wrapped in their signature tote with a card and bow — gift presentation done for you.

Hours: Tue–Sat 10–5, Thursdays until 7. Closed Sun & Mon. Call 978-207-1853. Shop online anytime at brissonte.com.

The Sweetbay Shop — Wakefield

478 Main St, Wakefield | shopsweetbay.com

Right in downtown Wakefield, Sweetbay has been a community favorite for years — a quaint boutique that combines elegant floral design with a thoughtfully curated selection of unique gifts, home decor, and vintage pieces.

Sweetbay is also a family business — and a true mother-daughter shop: Beth Hylan, a Wakefield lifer with over 35 years of floral and creative business experience, runs the shop with her daughter Liz Hylan Ferreira, who joined Beth at Sweetbay after the birth of her second child. Both are Wakefield High graduates, and the shop’s deep roots in the community come through in everything they do.

For Mother’s Day specifically, this is your flower headquarters. They specialize in fresh, quality blooms and custom arrangements — tell them Mom’s favorite colors or flowers and they’ll create something one-of-a-kind. They offer next-day delivery throughout Wakefield, Stoneham, Melrose, Reading, Winchester, Woburn, North Reading, Lynnfield, Wilmington, Medford, Malden, Peabody, and Saugus. Browse their full Mother’s Day gift collection online.

Beyond flowers, you’ll find gorgeous accessories, gifts for the home, and the kind of vintage finds that feel like they were chosen just for the person you have in mind.

Hours: Mon–Sat 9–5, Sun 10–4. Order online anytime at shopsweetbay.com, or call 781-245-8451.

A Few More Worth a Stop

While you’re shopping local, keep these in mind too: independent bookstores and florists across Winchester, Arlington, and Lexington are stocked for the weekend, and a quick swing through downtown Reading or Wakefield will turn up plenty of options if you’re shopping last-minute.

The Gift That Costs Nothing: A Walk Around Horn Pond

I promised earlier I’d come back to this — so here we are.

A few Mother’s Days ago, my son took me on a curated walk around Horn Pond in Woburn. He had scouted it the week before, mapping out the patches of flowering trees and the spots where wildflowers were starting to come up. We walked slowly. He pointed things out. We took pictures. That was the whole gift, and it remains one of the best ones I’ve ever gotten.

If you’re reading this and the budget is tight, or if Mom is the kind of person who has everything she needs and just wants your time — this is your blueprint. Horn Pond in early May is genuinely beautiful. The 2-mile loop is mostly flat, dog-friendly, and lined with the kind of small natural moments that don’t show up in any guidebook but that you remember years later. (If you’re new here — hi, I’m Jodi, a long-time North of Boston resident sharing the best of our towns.)

A few other walks worth considering for the same kind of gift:

  • Mystic Lakes in Winchester/Arlington — gorgeous water views and an easy paved path
  • Whipple Hill Conservation Area in Lexington — wooded trails and spring blooms
  • Breakheart Reservation in Wakefield/Saugus — for a longer hike if Mom is up for it
  • The Middlesex Fells — a classic any time of year, with countless entry points across our towns

A Reminder Worth Saving

Mother’s Day isn’t really about the brunch reservation or the perfect gift bag — and I say that as someone who genuinely loves both. It’s about pausing — actually pausing — to acknowledge the women who shaped us. The ones who showed up at the bus stop in the rain. Who held the line when we were impossible. Who made us into who we are, often without us noticing until much later.

My son didn’t know it at the time, but his Horn Pond walk taught me something I keep coming back to: the best gifts aren’t really gifts. They’re attention. They’re someone choosing to spend a slow morning with you because you matter to them.

Whether you’re celebrating your own mom, a stepmom, a grandmother, a mother-in-law, an aunt who stepped up, or the friend who’s mothering for the first time this year — celebrate her loudly. Book the table. Buy the flowers. Take the walk. Say the things out loud.

The local businesses above will help you do it. The rest is up to you.

And if Mother’s Day is a complicated day in your family — for any reason — know that you’re not alone. Our conversation with Light Work Therapy and Recovery is one place to start.
